Captain Thomas P. McCann Mascot School

  • The school's rain date is Friday, July 4.  Saturday, July 5 is the date for the Mascot Races with a rain date of Sunday, July 6.  Weather postponements will be announced by 9:45 AM on the home page of the beach patrol's website.

  • Beach and water safety, races, games, and refreshments are all part of the Mascot School itinerary.  Official mascot shirts will be awarded only to children who participate all three days.

  • Registration is limited to the first 200 four through eight year old boys and girls who are registered by a parent.

  • We encourage parents to stay with their children.  The reason being, when children need a towel, water to drink, or a break during the camp it is always easier to deal with these situations when parents are there to assist.  When needed there is no substitute for the comfort a parent can provide.

  • To help defray costs to the sponsors: Giovanni's Delicatessen, Drifters Feel Good Food, and the Sea Isle City Beach Patrol, it is necessary to charge a ten dollar registration fee for each child registered.  The fee is due when the registration form is submitted.  Do not register multiple children on one form.  The reason being, on the last day, the registration form will serve as a ticket to receive your child's mascot shirt. Although parents must complete ONE registration form for EACH child registered, the registration fees can be paid in ONE CHECK.  Checks should be made payable to Sea Isle City Beach Patrol.  No staples please!

  • Registration is limited to the first 200 four through eight year old boys and girls who are registered by a parent.

  • Registration forms can be downloaded by Clicking Here.   Mail (do not hand deliver) the registration form to Sea Isle City Beach Patrol, 233 JFK Boulevard, Sea Isle City, NJ 08243.  A  second option starting Saturday of Memorial Day Weekend is to deliver the registration form directly to Sea Isle City Beach Patrol Headquarters located at 44th Street and Promenade.  The second option is not recommended due to the fact that registration is usually closed by Memorial Day Weekend.  Headquarters is where mascots report each day for the program.

Captain Thomas P. McCann Mascot School Races

Details:

  • Beach and water safety, races, games, and refreshments are all part of the Mascot School itinerary. Official mascot shirts will be awarded only to children who participate all three days.

  • The fun and excitement of race competition is the purpose of the Mascot Races; not the ribbons. A hug by a parent or guardian for participation and effort is a far more meaningful reward. We ask parents not to argue with the lifeguards regarding race results.

  • We encourage parents to stay with their children. The reason being, when children need a towel, water to drink, or a break during the camp it is always easier to deal with these situations when parents are there to assist. When needed there is no substitute for the comfort a parent can provide.609-263-3655

1-Mile Ocean Swim

Details:

  • The race will be started at 11:00 AM, rain or shine, on Saturday, July 19, 2025.

  • An electrical storm or dangerous surf conditions will necessitate resetting the start time until later in the day. If conditions do not improve, the swim will be cancelled. Weather cancellations will be announced on the home page of the beach patrol's website.

  • The starting line for this box swim will be at the water's edge. Swimmers will swim out to the first turn buoy. After turning the buoy, they will swim parallel to the shore line. Upon reaching the second turn buoy, swimmers will turn toward the shore line and finish on the beach in front of the 44th Street beach patrol headquarters. The traditional starting line will be located at approximately 61st Street which means the swimmers will swim north. If extreme currents run north to south on race day, the starting line will be switched to 27th Street in an effort to have participants swim with the current.

Beach Clean Up

  • Volunteers are invited to participate in the Sea Isle City Environmental Commission’s Autumn Beach Clean-up and Dune Grass Planting event on Saturday, October 11.  Groups, families, and individuals who want to make a positive impact on the local ecosystem can register at 10:00 AM on the day of the event at JFK Boulevard and the Promenade, where Environmental Commission members will distribute trash bags and other supplies.

Santa Drive-By

  • Rain date: December 21.

  • During this event, the Fire Department will drive through Sea Isle City with Santa Claus onboard a fire engine, briefly stopping at pre-registered addresses, where they will distribute candy canes.

  • Sea Isle City residents and property owners who would like to add their address to the list of homes Santa visits that day can phone Sea Isle’s Recreation Office (609-263-0050) by 4:00 PM on December 12.

  • The Candy Cane Drive-By will begin in Sea Isle’s north-end (near 1st Street) and will continue south until it passes all of the registered properties. The amount of time required to reach all of the registered homes will depend on the number of individual addresses that are included on Santa’s route that day (so please be patient as you wait to hear the fire sirens as they approach).

  • Please Note: People in registered properties on dead-end streets (ex: beach blocks) are asked to walk to the nearest corner when they hear the fire sirens approaching.  This will prevent Santa and his firefighter friends from having to back-up the fire engines before continuing with the procession.
